* **virtual** /ˈvɜrtʃuəl/: Made by a computer to look or feel real, rather than existing in the physical world. — “The **virtual** assistant can answer questions through the speaker.”
* **function** /ˈfʌŋkʃən/: A job or action that a program or machine is built to do. — “This app has a new **function** that reads text aloud.”
* **response** /rɪˈspɑns/: An answer or reaction that a computer program gives after you ask it something. — “The chatbot's **response** came back in less than a second.”
* **input** /ˈɪnˌpʊt/: Information you put into a computer or program so that it can use it. — “The program needs your voice as **input** before it can reply.”
* **output** /ˈaʊtˌpʊt/: The result or answer a computer or program gives you after it has worked on something. — “The system checks its **output** before showing it to you.”
* **pattern** /ˈpætərn/: A regular way that something happens, which a computer program can learn to notice. — “The program looks for a **pattern** in the way you type.”
* **tracker** /ˈtrækər/: A small program that records what someone does online. — “Every page carried a **tracker** nobody had agreed to.”
* **wake word**: The word that makes a listening device start paying attention. — “Change the **wake word** or the television sets it off.”
* **prompt** /prɑmpt/: The instruction you type to tell a system what you want. — “A careful **prompt** gets a much better answer.”
