## Word list

* **by the way**: Used to introduce an extra comment that is only loosely connected to the main topic. — “**By the way**, did you remember to lock the door?”
* **as a matter of fact**: Used to introduce a true statement, often adding emphasis or a hint of surprise. — “**As a matter of fact**, I already finished the report.”
* **at first sight**: Based only on an initial view or impression, before looking more closely. — “It was love **at first sight** when they met.”
* **on purpose**: Intentionally, done deliberately rather than by accident. — “He knocked the vase over **on purpose**.”
* **of course**: Used to say yes, or to show that something is obvious or expected. — “**Of course** you can borrow my pen.”
* **for example**: Used to introduce a specific case that shows what you mean. — “Some fruits, **for example** apples and pears, grow well here.”
* **in fact**: Used to add a surprising or stronger detail to what was just said. — “I liked the film; **in fact**, I want to see it again.”
* **at least**: Used to say the smallest acceptable amount, or to mention one good thing in a bad situation. — “**At least** we got home before the rain started.”
* **as well**: Used to add another item to a list, meaning also or too. — “She speaks French and Spanish **as well**.”
* **just in case**: Done as a precaution, so you are prepared if something happens. — “Take an umbrella, **just in case** it rains.”
* **practice makes perfect**: Repeating an activity many times gradually helps you become skilled at it. — “**Practice makes perfect**, so keep rehearsing your speech.”
* **better late than never**: A saying used to accept that doing something after a delay is still worthwhile compared with not doing it at all. — “He finally apologised — **better late than never**.”
* **honesty is the best policy**: A saying advising that telling the truth is always the wisest choice, even when it's difficult. — “He admitted his mistake immediately — **honesty is the best policy**.”
* **no pain, no gain**: A saying meaning that real improvement usually requires some effort or discomfort. — “She pushed through the last mile, telling herself, "**No pain, no gain**."”
